Papillon

The Papillon is a tufted wingback bergère, covered in a printed fabric that reproduces newspaper pages scattered with multicoloured butterflies. Its swivelling wooden tray, banded in brass and mounted on an articulated arm on the right armrest, makes it a reading chair with a built-in side surface, with no extra furniture required.

Design details. Button tufting on the backrest, a Chesterfield technique, holds the padding in place and visually structures the seat. The printed press-and-butterfly fabric carries a distinctive decor across the whole cover: backrest, seat and armrests. A swivelling tinted-wood tray, banded in brass and fixed by an articulated arm to the right armrest, holds a glass or a book without a side table. Rolled, curved armrests and a high winged backrest wrap the shoulders and shelter from lateral draughts, a hallmark of the bergère, while the turned wooden legs with visible brass ferrules at the front add a refined finish to the base.

Ideal for reading corners, design offices and reception lounges after a visually singular piece. Its floor footprint remains sizeable owing to the wings and enveloping armrests, and the printed fabric calls for delicate cleaning, with no machine washing.
